Staphylococcus lugdunensis Pacemaker-related Infection
We report the first known case of a device-related bloodstream infection involving Staphylococcus lugdunensis small-colony variants. Recurrent pacemaker-related bloodstream infection within a period of 10 months illustrates the poor clinical and microbiologic response even to prolonged antimicrobial drug therapy in a patient infected with this staphylococcal subpopulation.
متن کاملPacemaker Related Infective Endocarditis from Staphylococcus Lugdunensis: A Case Report
Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a common skin flora not typically associated with infection. There are, however, several cases reported in the literature of Staphylococcus lugdunensis as a causative bacterium of various infections. This paper reports an additional case of pacemaker associated endocarditis with Staphylococcus lugdunensis as the causative bacterium.
متن کاملSynergistic hemolytic activity of Staphylococcus lugdunensis is mediated by three peptides encoded by a non-agr genetic locus.
Some strains of the coagulase-negative Staphylococcus lugdunensis produce a synergistic hemolytic activity (SLUSH), phenotypically similar to the delta-hemolysin of S. aureus. Reverse-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography of supernatants from S. lugdunensis 307 yielded three late-eluting peaks of 3.5 kDa with synergistic hemolytic activity. A degenerate oligonucleotide probe was designed fr...
متن کاملGenotypes and phenotypes of Staphylococcus lugdunensis isolates recovered from bacteremia.
BACKGROUND Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a member of coagulase-negative staphylococci, which has the potential to cause serious infections, such as endocarditis, bone and joint infections, and septicemia. Differences in phenotypic/genotypic characterization may be linked to different diseases. METHODS Genotypes of 11 S. lugdunensis isolates from bacteremia were determined by pulsed field gel ...
متن کاملSevere Staphylococcus lugdunensis keratitis
We report a severe case of Staphylococcus lugdunensis (S. lugdunensis) keratitis presenting as suppurative keratitis in a 77-year-old woman. The patient's chief complaint was eye pain and decreased visual acuity in her right eye. Suppurative keratitis with a severe corneal abscess was diagnosed by a slit-lamp ophthalmic examination. The causative organism was identified as S. lugdunensis by bac...
